Zanzibar è stato il primo bar per sole donne in Italia. Aperto nel 1978 in Via del Politeama a Roma, Trastevere. Bersaglio politico della polizia, Zanzibar è stato la piccola Stonewall italiana. Un luogo diverso di lotta e di incontro, simbolo ed emblema del movimento femminista e delle sue molteplici anime.
Zanzibar è la storia di un posto. È la storia dell’amore per un posto. È la storia dell’amore di due donne che immaginarono un luogo in cui potesse esistere una socialità diversa, in cui le donne potevano trascorre il loro tempo solo con le donne, dove nascevano storie d’amore e si facevano progetti. Il documentario alterna al bellissimo e inedito materiale di repertorio costituito dai filmati girati all’interno del bar, le interviste alle donne che hanno contributo a rendere Zanzibar un progetto concreto.
Francesca Manieri, è nata nel 1979. È laureata in filosofia e diplomata in sceneggiatura presso il Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia, scrive lungometraggi per il cinema tra cui la sceneggiatura per il prossimo film di Peter del Monte. È autrice di cortometraggi e coautrice del documentario Solo per oggi in concorso al Bellaria Film Festival 2006.
Monica Pietrangeli, è nata nel 1966. Si è laureata con una tesi sulla drammaturgia radiofonica. È redattrice e regista di programmi televisivi e lavora a RAI 3. Si occupa da molti anni di storia, politica e cultura delle donne.
Zanzibar was the first women only bar in Italy. It opened in 1978 and since that moment, it was a target for police so that it could be considered a sort of Italian Stonewall. It was a different place from the others, a place of struggle and meeting, the emblem of the Italian feminist movement and its internal multiplicities. Zanzibar is the story of a place. It is the story of love for a place and the love story between two women imagining a place in which a different social living could be possible, in which women could spend their own time exclusively with other women, in which love stories began and new projects were set. The documentary contains the wonderful archive footage unreleased until today, shot inside the bar and interviews to the women who contributed to make of Zanzibar a concrete project.
Francesca Manieri, was born in 1979. She took her degree in Philosophy and then obtained a Scriptwriting diploma at the Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome. Currently she works as scriptwriter, her last film script is signed with Peter Del Monte. She is the author of many shorts and is the co-author of the documentary Solo per oggi, presented at the 2006 Bellaria Film Festival.
Monica Pietrangeli, was born in 1966. She took a degree in Radio Dramaturgy and presently is editor and film director within broadcast journalism shows in Rai 3 TV Channel. One of her main interests is women history, politics and culture.
